Dr Sheanna Maine
About
Dr. Maine is an Orthopaedic Surgeon with specialist interests in Knee surgery, Paediatric Orthopaedics and Limb Reconstruction.
Dr Maine attributes her passion for orthopaedics to her parents, who were both engineers and she loves building Lego airplanes with her son, while her husband builds racing cars. In addition to her orthopaedic interests, Dr Maine has been an athlete at an international level and won Gold medals at the 2012 and 2016 Karate World Cups. She was selected to compete for Australia on the TSKFA Women’s Karate team from 2009 until 2021.
Integration of her interests in Karate and Orthopaedics has led her to delivering several seminars on “Biomechanics for Karate” and being a guest instructor on the International Karate at Home Facebook group.
Experience
She currently operates at North West Private Hospital, Brisbane Private Hospital and St Andrews War Memorial Hospital. She has a public appointment at the Queensland Children’s Hospital.
Dr Maine has been awarded an Adjunct Associate Professorship at Griffith University having researched extensively into the biomechanics of the patellofemoral joint and has collaborated with the Children’s Health Queensland Gait Laboratory to develop pioneering techniques in assessing the consequences of lower limb malalignment on patellofemoral dislocation. Dr Maine has been involved with the AOA Orthopaedic Outreach Pacific Islands Program and undertook three clinical and educational trips to Kiribati between 2014 and 2018. She was Team Leader of the 2015 visit and intends to continue supporting Orthopaedic Outreach.

Dr Maine has published multiple articles in peer review journals over the last five years, written book chapters and was a keynote speaker for the ANZ OS meeting in 2021. She is the president of the Australian & New Zealand Limb Reconstruction Society (ANZLRS), Faculty member for the Australian Paediatric Orthopaedic Society (APOS) and the first female member of the Australian Knee Society (AKS).
